» Faculty Profile

Amanda Oehlert is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Marine Geosciences (MGS) at the University of Miami’s Rosesntiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS). Her doctoral work focused on understanding geochemical records of global carbon cycling in a variety of depositional settings and diagenetic regimes. After completing her doctorate at RSMAS, Amanda worked a stint in industry, and gained experience interpreting the regional geology of the Gulf of Mexico. She pursued her post doctorate work in geobiology supported by an Agouron Institute Geobiology Fellowship and studied the geochemistry of living stromatolites in Hamelin Pool, Western Australia. Through this project, she also became interested in the role of dust on carbonate and evaporite mineral formation, and plans to continue her research on biogeochemical cycling throughout Earth history.

She joins the faculty of MGS in January 2019. Oehlert will teach courses in Geochemistry, andwill advise graduate and undergraduate students in their research projects in MGS who will be conducting research in the Trace Metal Geochemistry Lab.
